Key Achievements of the NiGP Program
Through national leadership and our continued role in the provision of policy advice and promotion of the practice nurse role, AGPN has contributed significantly to the advancement and promotion of nursing within the general practice context:
Some key achievements include:
- Providing advice on Nursing in General practice to the Department of Health & Ageing.
- Distribution of Innovation grants to support development of alternative models of care.
- Publication of the National Practice Nurse Workforce Survey Reports.
- Publication of the National Practice Nurse Workforce Survey Supplement Report 2009 which highlights why GP Practices may not employ a Practice Nurse.
- Production of a range of promotional materials for general practice nursing.
- Participation in the Australian General Practice Nursing Study.
- Publication of the Nursing in General Practice Recruitment and Orientation Resource – a guide for general practices, practice nurses, and divisions of general practice.
- Publication of the Nursing in General Practice Introduction to General Practice Program- to encourage nurses working in other areas to understand the benefits of working in general practice.
- Publication of the Nursing in General Practice Orientation Program for Nurses new to General Practice.
- Development of a learning package to support MBS Item 10997 for chronic disease management.
- Development of the Business Case Models for Nursing in General Practice.
